I'd like to know as it happens, for when I go over my old dears. Used to go to an Indian on Barking Rd up by the Denmark, but not been there for years.

Gav - Kanchans Rasoi on Romford Road - not BYO, but fantastic, authentic Punjabi food. Used it for years and never had a bad meal.

The Empress on Romford Road was fucking quality back in the day. Free brandy and cigars after dinner. Big loss.

Ignore the menu prices it is all you can eat from the menu for ten pounds per person .
Lovely Punjabi food . You will need to book at weekends tho and will feel like a spot on a different donimo , but that is the sign of a good Indian restaurant:

Best place in the 70's was mama and papas, used to do massive steaks the size of a cow's arse

I second Joe Royals suggestion, though it's not easy to find. Been going there years. Very authentic tix. Lovely food. Clientele almost entirely local, which tells you something about the food. Price went up to £12 per head beginning of November. Still very worth it though.

There use to be a Indian called Sagor on High Street North, right by Manor Park broadway that just disappeared. More recently I know that Taste of India is rated but the locals also seem to like the Chennia Dosa just up and opposite the Ruskin, think there's two, ones pure vegetarian and the other meat dishes. Brought up in the area if I ever was getting a take away I'd more than likely end up Chans though.

Sagor now a travel agent I suppose if the local pubs close then there are no punters with late night eating urges!! It won a lot of awards with one from bbc
